At Rising M Horsemanship, I aim to "do right" by horses and their humans. By this, I mean to strive to create peaceful, willing, athletic, and most of all, happy equine partners. To do this, I focus on riding the horse in a biomechanically advantageous way, while doing so in a way that works with the horse's nature and mind.
In addition, I aim to give owners an understanding of their horse's mind and body through foundational horsemanship. Thus, fostering a strong partnership between horse and rider.
I've been riding horses for over 15 years and have been a part of the equine industry for almost 8. I grew up taking pony rides on my grandmother's cattle ranch in Gatesville, TX, and began taking formal riding lessons in elementary school. After moving barns and switching disciplines a few times, I found myself at Graymar Farms in Driftwood TX, where I rode under Melissa Jesurun Performance Horses.
Throughout high school, I competed in the American Paint Horse All Around Events, where I successfully placed in multiple world championship shows and finished Zone 4 Novice Youth Champion in 2018. I also spent my summers as an assistant trainer for Melissa and was fortunate to grow under her guidance.
After my show horse sustained a career-threatening injury, I found that my old methods of domination and "lunging out the fresh" didn't work on a super athlete on stall rest. I reached out to Lynn Reardon, founder of Lonestar Outreach to Place Ex-Racers, and boarder at my barn. She showed me the beginnings of groundwork and how to get to the horse's mind, which helped me rehab my horse safely. This new way of horses caught my attention, and I began interning for LOPE and working with the OTTB War Horses.
After graduating high school in 2020, I moved to Colorado amid the pandemic to pursue a degree in Equine Science from Colorado State University. With this degree I learned the scientific inner workings of the horse -- from genetics, reproduction, anatomy, disease, and more. In addition, I minored in general business with a focus on entrepreneurship.
However, the greatest education I received in Colorado was my time with my mentors, Steve and Amy LeSatz of Bridle Bit Horsemanship. They are two incredible horsemen, who rode with Ray Hunt for two decades, and have a wealth of experience and knowledge. I interned with them for almost four years, and did everything from groundwork, colt starting, troubled horses, tune up's, cow work, and clinics! I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn from the best of the best, and they have had a profound impact on my horsemanship.
After graduating with honors in December 2024, I was offered a job as a trainer back at Graymar Farms, my old stomping grounds! Now that I am back, I'm excited to share what I've learned over the past few years, and to help both humans and horses!
Groundwork is a fundamental part of my training program. By building softness, confidence, and trust on the ground, I can transfer these principles to the ridden work. Thus, creating a strong partnership between horse & rider.
"Problem Solving" with horses and riders is my specialty. By working with the horse's mind and body through foundational horsemanship, I can help with a myriad of "behavioral issues". These include things like trailer loading, hard catchers, issues handling feet, nervous/spooky horses, and etc.
I base my training in foundational/vaquero-inspired horsemanship. I focus on riding the horse in a biomechanically advantageous way, while doing so in a way that works with the horse's nature and mind. I strive to create peaceful, willing, and athletic equine partners.
I offer horsemanship lessons to those of all ages. While I primarily ride western, the horsemanship I teach can translate to all disciplines. I aim to create balanced, confident riders who can be a reliable partner to their horse. And of course, to have fun! I offer on and off-site lessons, and can provide a lesson horse.
